One of the few things we three here at Babylon Cartel share in common is our taste in music. Our palette is rather vast, as you may bump into us in downtown Philly and may hear anything on out Ipods from Waka Flocka to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. But one artist who always seems to bubble to the surface is Skateboard P. Maybe its because his sound is so vast that he covers all angles. Maybe its because of the artists he collaborates with. Or maybe, just MAYBE (Note the N*E*R*D song subliminal? haha, I’m nice), he just makes some good damn music. So when I heard he would create a separate, completely acoustic version of his 2006 album In My Mind, which would be entitled, you guessed it kids, “Out Of My Mind”, I remember being hype on it. The when I heard Pharrell was teaming up with world famous percussion guru ?uestlove and highly talented producer and old family friend James Poyser, I couldn’t wait for this record to drop. Sadly, to no knowledge of mine, the project was shelved. But don’t worry! That’s what YOUTUBE is for!!! If you haven’t heard of this record, or this forgotten album, I suggest you take out a half hour and check it out. A personal favorite of mine is “Take It Off”. But please, listen with caution. And make sure you’re around that special lady(or fellow, for my lady followers). But “Best Friend” talks of trials that Pharrell opening up to his life as a youngster, personal losses he endured, and how these events affected the man he is today. I’m pretty sure we can all relate to the struggle in some fashion, so I take my own advice as I write this: as my fraternity brother Ricky Parker once told me, “Life isn’t about wanting for the storm to past. Its about learning how to dance in the rain.” I bid you adieu until next time folks, when I let you back in the mind of a Insomniac. Two fingers up.
