We at Babylon Cartel have been following certain artists in our area for a while, and one of the guys we like is Dannie Phantom. I heard of Dannie through a mutual friend, and I can honestly say his song “What’s Your Name” was one of my favorite songs of last year. I think his material spans many diffferent genres, and he could be very successful in the near future. He reached to us and we came together for the “Snickers EP”, and I think you’ll enjoy it. Check it out here.
Through many channels and connections, we here at BC tend to get backstage access to certain events. One of these was the Kids In The Hall-headlined concert sponsored by our blogging brethren Uristocrat. We got a chance to hang out with some our friends in the Philly music scene Sock and Asaad, two participants in the Babylon Cartel Battlegrounds*, and I got a chance to rap to emerging artist Stalley. My dude was cool peoples, and definitely put on for his area code in the 330. To all our Ohio supporters, know you got a good one riding for you guys. Be on the lookout for a Babylon Cartel X Stalley collab in the very near future (fall, maybe? #EvilVillanLaugh). Enough talk, now you can listen.
*This will get a seperate post, but for all of those interested in participating in the next Battlegrounds, email me as soon as possible with some of your material and contact info. I’d like to get this done as soon as possible, and I was made aware of new people trying to get involved. Check our Contact Us page for my email address.
Yo, I was literally in tears when I saw this. Affion Crockett is a funny and cool dude, I met him a couple years ago at Charlie Mack’s Celebrity Weekend here in the 215. But I’m not gonna lie, since “Wild’n Out” went off the air, I haven’t really checked him out. His impersonations are always on point (check his Youtube page), but this might have to be his funniest yet, as he takes on the persona of Aubrey Graham. He’s complete with Drizzy rhymes, #DrakeHands (word to Nate Jones hahaha) and fuzzy eyebrows, but it’s the Tim Westwood inpersonator who steals the show. If you don’t know who Tim Westwood is, he’s a world famous Radio DJ from England. Check it out.
“Oh!!! Â Blackberry’s a No No! Perhaps an iPad, or cue cards…”
Ok, ok, ok…. I’ve been prolonging this event much to the chagrin to everyone involved, but it has been a busy two months. I’ve received many a threats over Twitter and Emails, so I had to get this done. But here it is: one day, an idea struck me while I was cleaning my house ( one of the many activities where things come to mind) on how to bring the youth movement of music together with BC and how to give these artists a chance to showcase their talents and abilities. So I decided to reach out to any MC interested in a freestyle competition and we’ll put the results on the blog. We recieved interest by some of our close friends and by folks that we’ve, until now, never heard of. A generic beat was given to all artists and they had under two minutes to show us, and you, what they can do. Needless to say, I was very, very impressed. But as I thought more into it, I didn’t want to make this a competition anymore for the simple fact that all of us, whether in music, art, fashion, etc, are in search of the same goals. And we can use each other to achieve said goals. So below are the verses of the first round, on the instrumental for “Inkredible” by Trae, Lil’Wayne, and Rick Ross. Feel free to follow everyone on their Twitter accounts and look up more of their music. The Battlegrounds have commenced.
I think i’ve witnessed the greatest commercial of the year. I’ll admit, I’m not a fan of soccer like that, although the World Cup does have me a little hype on it. But leave it to the best to capture the passion that countries have for their clubs, and to add a couple cultural references, as well. Shout out to Homer. Just watch.
This Saturday, May 22nd, sneaker culture staple Converse will be having an event with Ubiq focusing on individuality and creativity. You will have the opportunity to have a blank canvas and create your own masterpiece, only the canvas being an white-on-white pair of Converse Chuck Taylors. There will be professional artists on hand, so if you think your hand isn’t that steady, they’ll be able to paint some for you. This is definitely a cool event in my opinion, a nice change of pace, and something that the whole family can enjoy. Big Ups to the man Set Free for reaching out to the kid. Hopefully we’ll see you there.
I think this is a really good second single for Drake, off of his new album “Thank Me Later”. First, it comes off as “safe”, as in it could get appeal in many different markets. Second, you can definitely hear the Kanye influences on the record, as he did co-produce it with the talented duo WrightTrax (if you haven’t heard of them, check them out here). And I think the video does a lot for the tone of the song. Audrey decides to visit the not so sunny shores of Jamaica to find his true love, but ends up getting into trouble along the way. Big ups to Movado for the cameo. Check out the vid.
