THE HOME OF PHILLY

April 23rd, 2010 | No Comments »

Let me start off by saying Babylon Cartel is a Philadelphia-based brand. All parties involved were born and raised in the City of Brotherly Love, and the culture of our city is shown in everything we do. With that being said, from time to time, we don’t quite understand why the city is overlooked in the Media, whether it be for Fashion, Music, etc; especially because of the rich history our city has in many different aspects. But now the sun has set on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. MTV has touched down and chosen to do a MY BLOCK:PHILLY to show the world what Philadelphia is working with and the talent that fills our streets. With appearences from vets like Freeway and Gillie Da Kid, and the up and comers Meek Mill and Tone Trump, MTV is giving you an inside look on what is going on in the 215. Huge shoutout to the Byers’ Brothers, Mark and Sherman, and Rockstar Entertainment for helping to make this possible, and make sure you’re tuned in May 2nd on MTV JAMS for Philly Day.

NO ONE EVER REALLY DIES….

NERDilicious

Levi’s Relaunch Party – N.E.R.D from exposure on Vimeo.

A couple of weeks ago, Team Babylon attended the NERD concert here in Philly for Temple’s Spring Fling. It was quite easily the best concert I’ve been to in my life. I’ve never been to a concert where I’ve known ALL the words, and that says a lot. Looking online and I found a way better copy of the group’s two new singles, “Party People” and “Hot and Fun”. They’ve deemed their fourth album “Nothing”, because according to Mr. Williams, “We’re (The Band) nothing without our fans.” Check it out.

24694_554193140964_62305759_31668489_4362744_nSo, we here at Babylon Cartel (Follow Us: @BabylonCartel) often talk of our affection of the Washington, DC area. Whether it’s the culture, cuisine, or the people, DC is something like a second home to us. My man Cali (Follow Him: @Cavalli_Cali) put us on one of the hottest events of the year, The AllWhite MMX 2010: The First Impression. Me, personally, I never heard of a fashion show and photo-shoot DURING a party, so I’m pretty excited to see how this is gonna work. Hopefully all our DMV fam join us as we get it popped, Babylon Style. Shoutout to my man Kamau (Follow Him, too: @Mr_Westside) on the promo tip, too.

S.O.T.D. “WAY OUT” BIG SEAN X MR. HUDSON

March 1st, 2010 | No Comments »

Finally Famousbig-sean-x-mr-hudson

Turn off the faucets, a leak has occurred!!!! I stumbled on this song today searching the web, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed. The subject matter touches on something that most people have gone through: A bad breakup. Sean paints the picture of a man going through the motions of pain, sadness, regret and anger. But he also hits on something that most women fail to realize that us men think about: love. Speaking from a man’s P.O.V., I can say that dudes want to love, no matter the picture being painted to you ladies out there. And Sean definitely speaks on it. With Mr. West giving the backdrop, and talented G.O.O.D music crooner Mr. Hudson on the hook, I think Mr. Finally Famous has hit the right radio note. It’s a track that a lot of dudes will be able to put themselves in his shoes and vibe with him. But hey, isn’t that what G.O.O.D Music is all about?

BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID….

February 9th, 2010 | No Comments »

So it looks as though Jordan Brand realized that they couldn’t hold on to the athletes on their roster for so long and reign supreme without some type of shot in the arm. When I heard the Flash 3 rumors that he was going to Team Jumpman, I couldn’t believe it. Then I started seeing him is some Sick P.E.’s and then I knew it was true: Dwyane Wade was going to be wearing Jordans. Soon after, pictures of both Flash and His Airness appeared, dressed in suits and holding what looked to be a sneaker with a satellite dish in it. Could it be, would the Chicago product restore glory to the line that his basketball idol (mine’s too, and I don’t even hoop) used to bring triumph to the United Center? We shall see. In the meantime, enjoy. The Flash will be there, even in your nightmares.

AZIZ ANSARI ON KANYE WEST

February 8th, 2010 | No Comments »

So I don’t really follow comedy all like that, but if people put me on a comedian, and constantly vouch for them, i’ll give them a listen. Aaron had asked me if I had heard some stand-up material from Aziz Ansari. I didn’t even know who this dude was, but then I found out that he was the guy of of the movie Funny People. Aaron told me that Aziz had reminisced some stories between him and Kanye West, and at that point he was telling me this was a must-see. So today I check out the video on every blogger’s right hand utility, Youtube, and I gotta tell you, I was dying the entire time. I can appreciate certain types of dry humor, so this was pretty funny.

WARNING: THIS VIDEO HAS ADULT-THEMED LANGUAGE. PLEASE CONSULT WITH SOMEONE OVER THE LEGAL AGE OF 18 BEFORE VIEWING THIS VIDEO. PARENTAL DISCRETION IS ADVISED

I always wanted to do that.

The Massachusetts outerwear line Penfield recently shot a spread for their spring/summer collection. This marks the label’s 35th anniversary, and they do nothing short of exceed expectations. They bring their norm with classic, simple looks that apply to any day life. Wouldn’t be surprised if our dudes at Ubiq carry this when it drops. Shoutout to Andy and Ryan, save me a XL jacket homies. More Pics after the jump…

THE GAME OF DEATH

February 4th, 2010 | No Comments »

kobe bryant bruce lee nike zoom kobe v 2 Bruce Lee x Nike Zoom Kobe V & Promotional Posters

It’s been a great couple weeks for Kobe Bryant aka The Black Mamba aka Lord of the Rings. He’s recently passed Jerry West for first all time on the Lakers’ Scoring List, as named a starter for the Western Conference All Star Team, and now the man known as “The Greatest Closer in the NBA” has debuted his newest sneaker, The Kobe V. While he released the shoe in his traditional Lakers colors, and having made a special Player Edition for his high school team, the Lower Marion Aces, he has done a collaboration with Nike to make a special colorway honoring legendary karate star Bruce Lee. The shoe is based on the  movie poster Game of Death. I personally am not a fan of the promo pictures, but I am a fan of the shoe. Check it out.
