We had the pleasure of having Skee TV stop our Loft in Los Angeles to shoot some behind the scenes footage for Rome’s new single “Get The Guap”. If you have not heard Rome Fortunes full length project “Beautiful Pimp” you can download it here. The Get The Guap video is a journey through the mind of a young man with one thing on his mind ( Money ). Besides the rather direct theme, the video features many cameos, and is shot against the beautiful backgrounds of southern california. Director Jack Stillz has been hard at work shooting in Los Angeles in Atlanta.

To understand the meaning of The Ratchet Pussy Party we must first dive deep into our ancestors. “Our” meaning everyone. In a brief recap, life is theorized to have started in The “Fertile Crescent” of Africa. People spread, nations grew and they started wars. The Europeans invaded and conquered parts of Africa. They learned great things from the country and applied it to their own cities and infrastructure. Meanwhile life was developing in the Americas for many native nations such as The Incas and Mayas of the south as well as the Iroquois of the north.  As tensions built in Europe a very wealthy religious group came over to the Americas because they could not live life the way they wanted to in Europe. Many more things happened including the total genocide and displacement of millions of Africans and Native Americans followed by the Holocaust leads us to present day Planet Earth. Of course more happened but the key thing you should have drawn from all of this is that WE came from one place. In essence we all in some way share the same blood. But what does that have to do with Ratchet Pussy Party? READ BELOW!

Ratchet is not a new word, infact its a word we all use. We call our friends ratchet when they do unmentionable things. We call other people ratchet for the way that they dress. Many of our friends that shall ( and should want to ) remain nameless tune into VH1 to watch re-runs of their very own ratchet “role models” fight and bicker on camera in a reality TV ooze that drips from the zit that we call Cable TV.  If ratchet is everything wrong with the world then what made it so popular?

The ratchet phenomena became popular because many people secretly wanted to live life without caring who they piss off. Instead of carrying out these desires they decided to live vicariously through influential people who really didn’t give a fuck. These “ratchet” ambassadors such as Riff Raff, Chief Keef, Nicki Minaj , Evlyen Lonzada and Chrissy ( just to name a few ) have a verbal and social freedom that many can only dream about.

The media even dove into the madness when adorn publications such as Fader Magazine became a harbinger for the Chicago Drill Movement, this ever so elusive music “know it all” even gave the leader of the movement ( Chief Keef ) the magazine cover.

Events such as these gave another look into the world of the ratchet. You saw where these people were coming from, you could see the way they grew up and you realized that they are only products of their environment. These “ratchets” that were once frowned upon became accepted and the people who could only read about them now secretly wanted to be them. In a social media frenzy, Lawyers, Doctors, Real Estate Agents , ( and even the girl next door ) began tweeting pictures of themselves doing sexy handstands and tweeting them to Philly based producer/DJ Diplo.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY

Suddenly it was ok to be ratchet, and while the rest of our nation was expressing themselves and sending fully nude pictures to 40z Van a certain group of people still were not won over. ( Atleast not in public )

Being an African American male I can honestly say that of all the black people that I invited to this event about half of them were not very fond of something called “Ratchet Pussy” and I don’t blame them. After over 400 years of servitude to build the backbone of this great nation the last thing my ancestors and any progressive black person would want to hear is that their peer is throwing an event about some ratchet Pussy. And while this compels me I chose to send out a message to everyone and simply say LIGHTEN UP!, and here is why.

The term “Ratchet Pussy” was used following a statement that Grammy Award Winning rapper Juicy J said in one of his hit songs. Juicy J stated that he couldn’t say no to the very thing that ended up being the name of this event. On the surface we could say that J was simply talking about a woman’s vagina but what if he meant more? What if Ratchet Pussy was a metaphor for a care free life?  I would agree with anybody if they felt that was complete bullshit but I challenge you yet again. What if a few creative and progressive brands came together to take this negative term and make it positive?

The Ratchet Pussy Party was created to shock people. We are attempting to take a bad term and make it good. Can we bring together 700 people with a negative term for one night of social togetherness playing music that everyone loves? No boundaries, no limits, no dress codes, no VIP , just beautiful people under one roof having fun? Is that possible and what does it mean for our generation?

I believe Lana Del Ray explained it best with the visuals for National Anthem. This music video in its essence represents Ratchet Pussy Party. The visual shows the promise and progress of our generation. This is something that our older siblings, friends, parents and associates just would not understand. I believe the core message in Lana Del Ray’s video is that love is blind. True love knows no color, sexual preference or any other boundary that society can dream up to stop you from being you.

So what do we mean by this? Are we saying go inter-racial? Are we saying try a new hobby? Are we saying travel? Are we saying go back to school? Are we saying start painting? Are we saying join a circus? Are we saying quit your job and follow your dreams? THE ANSWER IS YES!  No one can dictate what you should or shouldn’t be stimulated by. Not one person could ever tell you how to think or what you should or shouldn’t be doing as long as you are living a positive life free from harm and harming others. Think of Ratchet Pussy Party as your liberation, your wake up call, your message that THE SKY IS THE LIMIT. Now what does this all mean for our generation? It means that we don’t have to be bounded by the way things “were” done and we can continue to be innovative and build our own bridges. Even if it means taking the most negative term and using it as a catalyst to bring all the shades of the earth together. We all share the same blood and that beautiful gradient of different complexions will show on November 16th 2012.  I look forward to the future and see you Friday.
